Catch the Wave at Stingray Bay!
Stingray Bay is open from March through October, weather permitting of at least 55 degrees and above.
What is Stingray Bay?
Zoo guests and members now have the amazing opportunity to see stingrays up close and touch these majestic creatures! Guests can interact with these beautiful animals as they “fly” and glide through a 16,000 gallon 2-feet deep saltwater pool. The exhibit collection of 30 animals includes cownose stingrays, southern stingrays, bonnethead sharks and white-spotted bamboo sharks.
Where is it located?
Stingray Bay is located east of the Canopy Food Court on your way to the upper level of the Aquaticus building.
Will someone be available to assist me?
Yes. Trained staff members are always on hand to monitor the pool, inform guests about the best ways to touch the animals and answer questions.
What types of stingrays will I see?
Cownose, southern stingrays and bamboo sharks gracefully fly, slide and glide through their Stingray Bay home. Stingrays are typically bottom feeders that eat crustaceans, mollusks and other invertebrates in their natural environment.
I’m excited to touch the stingrays, but is it safe?
Absolutely! Each stingray barb is carefully trimmed off their whip-like tails. The painless trimming procedure is similar to cutting human fingernails. Safe for all ages, the landscaped pool features a waterfall and a wide ledge for toddlers to lean against when touching the rays.
This sounds cool! How much does it cost and what are the hours?
Admission to Stingray Bay is $3 per person. Children two and under are free. ZooFriends' memberships do not apply. Stingray Bay is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during regular hours. It's open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the summer when the Zoo is open until 8 p.m. on Saturdays only.
I'm in! Tell me more!
