  • Clues and prizes will change weekly, so play again!

Week 6 - current week

Fun things you may not know about the Pachyderm area...

  • The Zoo is one of only 21 zoos in North America to manage Indian rhinoceros.

  • The Zoo is one of 12 in the United States to exhibit pudu, a genus of small deer.

  • Bowling for Rhinos is a national annual event with proceeds benefiting rhino conservation around the world. The Zoo has helped the Oklahoma City chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers contribute more than $208,000 to this cause from the event since 1992.

  • Be sure and visit the Zoo on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 12. All moms receive FREE admission with any purchased ticket.

Week 5

Fun things you may not know about the Elephant habitat and surrounding areas...

  • You might catch the elephants grabbing a snack from a hanging hay bag! These feeders simulate eating greens off of a tree (a natural behavior) and also help to strengthen the neck muscles. They have to work a little harder to get their food, so it’s great enrichment!

  • The only museum of its kind in the country, the ZooZeum is housed in what was originally a bathhouse built in 1935.

  • The Safari Boats are electric powered and completely pollution-free. Each boat weighs 22,000 pounds, more than twice the weight of Rex, the elephant!

  • Be sure and visit the Zoo on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 12. All mothers receive FREE admission!

Week 4

Fun things you may not know about the Great EscApe exhibit...

  • Great EscApe is the only exhibit of its kind to house all three great ape species (gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans) in one major exhibit.

  • The Zoo has the distinction of having the oldest Western lowland gorilla in the United States to give birth.

  • The Zoo has the rare distinction of housing two family troops of Western lowland gorillas.

  • The Zoo only accepts and distributes palm oil free candy during its annual, six-day Haunt the Zoo for Halloween event. The event requires approximately 250,000 pieces of candy.

  • Every Wednesday in July and August, the Zoo is offering WAY BACK discounts on admission and concessions!

Week 3

Fun things you may not know about the Oklahoma Trails exhibit...

  • Oklahoma Trails includes more than 800 individual animals that are native to Oklahoma.

  • Our alligator snapping turtle was named after the Oklahoma town of Tishomingo.

  • Within Oklahoma Trails, you will find Oklahoma’s state wildflower, the Indian Blanket.

  • More than 700 trees adorn the Oklahoma Trails landscape and more than 500 plants garnish the free-flight aviary.

  • Party for the Planet, our family-fun Earth Day celebration, will be Sunday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Event activities are free with Zoo admission. Sunday, April 21 is also a Kid’s Choice Day where kids get to bring an adult to the Zoo for free, with the purchase of a child admission.

Week 2

Fun things you may not know about the Zoo Lake area...

  • The Endangered Species Carousel is unique because it features animals that are endangered in the wild. There are a total of 74 brass poles on the Carousel.

  • The Safari Boats are electric powered and completely pollution-free. Each boat weighs 22,000 pounds, more than twice the weight of Rex, the elephant!

  • Our baby red panda was named KayDee in honor of Oklahoma City Thunder player, Kevin Durant, commonly known by fans as KD. The red panda is listed as a vulnerable species because only an estimated 10,000 remain in the wild. While giant pandas are in the bear family, red pandas are more likely relatives of raccoons or skunks.

  • The Zoo provides the largest, walk-through outdoor Butterfly Garden in Oklahoma. It features thousands of plants with the specific purpose of attracting butterflies and their caterpillars.

  • Our little elephant, Malee, is turning two! The Birthday Bash will be on Sunday, April 14, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with cake and party favors for thousands (while supplies last). Come and help us celebrate!

Week 1

Fun things you may not know about the Children’s Zoo…

  • Each of our 12 goats living in the Barnyard is named after  an Oklahoma city or town.

  • Kids are playful by nature and while in the Children’s Zoo we want them to look under rocks, get their hands and feet wet, and explore every path!

  • Most of the animal identification signs can be sung to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb!”

  • Join us for storytelling fun on Grandma’s Porch every Tuesday in June and July for Wild Tuesdays Story Time Safaris.
