Animal Technician - Giraffes

Description

The Oklahoma City Zoological Park is looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and motivated individual who will compliment the giraffe area team. This position requires experience in animal care/animal husbandry work; familiarity with a wide variety of taxa including birds, carnivores, and hoofstock, and a background in animal training and enrichment are preferred. The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Zoo staff at all levels. The chosen candidate may participate in scientific meetings, conferences, and workshops pertaining to the animals under their care. An expectation to continue to seek and acquire education/knowledge in the field is necessary. A Bachelor's degree in Zoology or Biology is preferred but not required. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Weekend and holiday shifts expected. Must be willing to serve, if requested to do so, on the emergency response team. The emergency response team responds to animal related emergencies. Service also includes training and use of firearms to respond to emergency situations in the Zoo as required. Training is provided for all that are asked to serve.

The minimum salary for this position is $11.19 per hour plus excellent benefits. Applications or resumes will be accepted through March 31, 2010 (4:30 PM). EOE
