OKC ZOO HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL EVENING ESC"APE"

Posted on 04/16/2009

Bring your “ape”-petite and prepare for a wild evening at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden! On Saturday, April 25 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., join the Zoo’s chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) as they host the third annual “Evening EscAPE,” a night of fun and conservation at the Zoo’s world class-great ape exhibit, Great EscApe. Dine inside Great EscApe and enjoy an “ape”-pealing meal provided by Johnny Carino’s on West Memorial as you observe our magnificent apes. Your ticket includes dinner, a behind-the-scenes tour of Great EscApe, a special presentation by the keepers and a silent auction featuring items including ape-made paintings and additional behind-the-scenes tours. A great opportunity to get to know our amazing apes, come and see the gorillas, orangutans and chimpanzees!

Started in 2007 by Great EscApe Supervisor Jennifer Davis, “Evening EscAPE” is a unique opportunity to learn about these fascinating apes while supporting conservation. All proceeds from the event benefit ape conservation projects, with previous years having raised more than $11,000 in total.

“Sumatran orangutans may very well be the first great ape species to go extinct, and it’s something that could happen in the next 10-15 years,” says Davis. “Knowing that could happen in my lifetime made me want to do something, anything, to help.”

Reservations are required and tickets are $50 per person. Guests must be 14 years old or older to attend. For more information or to make a reservation, contact Zoo Guest Services at (405) 425-0262.
