OKC ZOO NAMES NEW DIRECTOR OF VETERINARY SERVICES
The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden has named associate veterinarian Dr. Jennifer D'Agostino as the new Director of Veterinary Services.
Dr. D'Agostino came to the Zoo in 2003 as a zoological medicine resident through Oklahoma State University. After completing her residency, the Zoo offered her a position as an associate veterinarian in 2006. She served the Zoo in this capacity until her current promotion to Director of Veterinary Services.
"Dr. D'Agostino has done an outstanding job in contributing to the continued success of the Zoo's veterinary services," said Interim Director/CEO Brian Aucone. "She has managed the animal hospital with integrity and professionalism, and I know she will continue to lead the veterinary services department in a positive direction."
Originally from Davison, Michigan, she was awarded a Bachelor's of Science in Veterinary Science from Michigan State University (MSU) in 1999. She continued her education at MSU, leading her to obtain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). After graduating, Dr. D'Agostino traveled to Kansas State University where she completed internships in small animal medicine and surgery and the study of exotic/zoo animals. This experience led her to Oklahoma in 2003 to perform her residency at the Zoo.
In October 2007, Dr. D'Agostino earned diplomate status in the American College of Zoological Medicine (Dipl. ACZM). This certification not only signifies that Dr. D'Agostino received advanced training in veterinary medicine, but also designates her as a specialist in the medical and surgical treatment of zoo animals.
"I feel that wildlife deserves to be protected, and I want to do my part to bring education and awareness to people about these wonderful animals," Dr. D'Agostino said. "By being a Zoo veterinarian, I can help ensure these species are around for a long time."
Dr. D'Agostino currently resides in Oklahoma City. She said she pursued her career as a vet because she knew it was what she was meant to do.
Recognized as one of the top three family friendly zoos in the nation and the state's #1 attraction, the Zoo is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with exhibit buildings closing at dusk. Admission is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages three to 11 and seniors age 65 and over. Children two and under are admitted free.
