MARCH:        BEHIND THE SCENES

Curious what happens behind the scenes at the Zoo? This is your chance to find out. Participate in our Behind the Scenes program for the once in a lifetime opportunity to spend part of a day with our zookeepers as they care for, train and enrich their animals. You’ll also have the chance to ask lots of questions and learn what you can do to help animals in the wild. Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot today. MARCH 5–APRIL 1:            “BE SPIED AND GET SPIED AT THE OKC ZOO” PHOTO CONTEST

There’s something fun for everyone at the Oklahoma City Zoo. Get your camera, flash a grin and you might win in the “Be Spied and Get Spied at the OKC Zoo” Photo Contest! The Zoo has teamed up with KJ103, 101.9 The Twister, News9 and News9.com for some spring break fun. Click a pic of yourself, friends, family or little ones having fun at the OKC Zoo (in 2012) and enter to win! E-mail your photo to the Zoo to be randomly selected for daily and weekly prizes, or the ultimate grand prize. Last day to submit photos is April 1. The grand prize winner will be announced on April 3. Prizes provided by Wild Birds Unlimited OKC, OKC Kayak, Bass Pro, 42nd St. Candy Co. & the Zoo. MARCH:             ZOOFRIENDS ANIMAL ADOPTION PACKAGE

Together we can make a difference. ZooFriends is offering a special animal adoption that allows you to adopt an elephant, tiger and/or grizzly bear. Your gracious $40 donation aids the Oklahoma City Zoo with important funding for health, enrichment and the nutritional needs of all our animals including our Asian elephants, Sumatran tigers and grizzly bears. Recipients will receive a plush, an adoption certificate, a fact sheet about their animal and name recognition on Zoo grounds for an entire year. MARCH 1– 31:   DR PEPPER VENDING MACHINE ART CONTEST

During March, Oklahoma students in grades K-12 are invited to participate in the Dr Pepper Vending Machine Art Contest for a chance to win a $500 savings bond courtesy of First Security Bank and have their design placed on one of two Dr Pepper vending machines located on Zoo grounds.  This year’s contest theme is The Zoo + You = Conservation. MARCH 10:        SEA LION SHOW SEASON BEGINS

Lots of splish. Lots of splash. That’s what the Zoo's Sea Lion Show has to offer. Another exciting show season begins March 10. Cost of admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children three-11. Children two and under are free. The show time schedule is as follows:

March 10-25 (Spring Break):

  • Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1 and 3 p.m.

  • Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.

  • Sundays at 1 and 3 p.m.

April-Labor Day:

  • Thursdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. and noon

  • Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.

  • Sundays at 1 and 3 p.m.

Way Back Wednesdays (July and August): Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

MARCH 10:        KEEPER CONNECTIONS

Ever wonder what a parrot likes to do for fun? How bowling helps save rhinos? Or, why altering your grocery list can save wild orangutans? Keeper Connections are a great way to learn about your favorite animals from the people who care for them. Connect with wildlife while hearing & seeing how the Zoo strives to conserve and preserve our natural resources, and what you can do to help, too.  Keeper Connections begin March 10 and continue through October, weather permitting. The complete schedule is as follows:

  • 11 a.m.          Elephant Presentation @ the Elephant Pavilion (March – June)

  • 11 a.m.          Black Rhino (July – October)

  • 1:15 p.m.       Elephant Presentation @ the Elephant Pavilion

  • 1:30 p.m.       Birds of Prey (across from picnic pavilions)

  • 1:30 p.m.       Great Apes Rotating Conservation Chats

  • 2 p.m.            Cheetahs

  • 2 p.m.            Upper Aquarium (Noble Aquatic Center)

  • 2:30 p.m.       River Otters (Oklahoma Trails)

  • 2:30 p.m.       Birds/Parrots @ Great EscApe’s Observation Tower

  • 3 p.m.            Tigers

  • 4 p.m.            Alligators (Oklahoma Trails)

SUNDAYS:                  

  • 11 a.m.          Red Pandas

  • 11 a.m.          Galapagos Tortoise @ Island Life

MARCH 20–23: SPRING BREAK DAY CAMPS 

There’s no camp like zoo camp. Our single-day camps offer a variety of activities including tours, up-close animal visits, crafts and games. This year’s camp themes include Marvelous Mammals, Radical Reptiles, Amphibian Antics, and Super Sea Creatures. All camps are for 4-5, 6-7 and 8-11 year olds meet daily from 9 a.m. to noon and provide a snack. Cost is $18 per child/per day for ZooFriends and $22 per child/per day for non-members and requires advance registration and payment. MARCH 31:   ANIMAL AND PET ENRICHMENT DAY

The Oklahoma City Zoo is hosting the “purr”fect party complete with “dog”gone fun favors for the Zoo’s animals and your pets, too! Join us at the Zoo on Saturday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Animal and Pet Enrichment Day, an event focusing on enrichment. Activities will take place in the Zoo’s global plaza and on grounds, and are free with admission. Guests of all ages will enjoy interactive activities, animal encounters and learning about enrichment. Participants will have the opportunity to make enrichment items that they can take home for their “furry friends” as well as items for some of the Zoo’s animals. Plus, volunteers from Therapy Dogs International, Inc. Chapter #77 will be in the plaza with their therapy dogs for guests to meet. Extend your zoo experience and attend that day’s keeper connections.
