NOW–AUGUST 15:   #110 WAYS TO ZOO IT PROMOTION

It's the 110th anniversary of the OKC Zoo and we’re celebrating with gifts for you! Join News 9, Jake FM, Magic 104 and the Zoo for 110 days of giveaways now through August 15, 2014. Enter often for a chance to win possible prizes including gift cards, Zoo memberships, movie passes, toys and more. Kids can print out and decorate a Zoo Explorer, and come to the Zoo to register to win prizes daily. Share photos of your little ones with their Zoo Explorer at the Zoo on the Zoo’s Facebook page for bonus prizes at www.facebook.com/okczoobg. NOW–AUGUST 28:   OKLAHOMA BLOOD INSTITUTE AND ZOO SUMMER PARTNERSHIP

Feel cool. Give blood. The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) and the Zoo are teaming up for a good cause. When you donate blood at any OBI mobile drive or donor center between now and August 28, 2014, you will receive two free adult admission tickets to the Zoo, an OBI T-shirt, health screenings and Donor Rewards Points. This year, during a special two-week period from May 27–June 8, anyone who donates blood will receive four Zoo admission tickets instead of two. NOW–AUGUST 30:  STAY LATE AND PLAY ON SATURDAYS

Now through August 30, the Zoo will remain open until 8 p.m. on Saturdays allowing guests to stay and play. Exhibit buildings will close at 7:45 p.m. Stingray Bay will close at 7 p.m. All rides, attractions and concessions will be open depending on weather. All guests must leave Zoo grounds at closing time.

 

JUNE–AUGUST:  SUMMER DAY CAMPS AT THE ZOO

Put a little wild in your little one’s day with the Oklahoma City Zoo’s summer day camps. Enroll your children today in our educational and entertaining four-day camps taking place June through August. Campers will have the opportunity to experience an animal up-close, crafts, games and Zoo walks. Camp details:

  • All camps meet Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Zoo’s Education Department.
  • Each camp week features a different theme.
  • Camps are designed for children 3-15 years old.
  • Cost is $110 per child with a ZooFriends membership and $130 per child for non-members.
  • Advance registration and payment is required.
  • A snack will be provided but children need to bring their own lunch.

TUESDAYS IN JUNE AND JULY:  WILD TUESDAYS STORY TIME SAFARIS

The Zoo hosts Wild Tuesdays Story Time Safaris every Tuesday in June and July. Two story sessions will be held each week at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at Grandma’s Porch in the Children’s Zoo. Sessions include “wild” stories, a craft activity and a juice box, plus a visit from a Zoo keeper. Each session, geared towards children 11 and under, lasts approximately 25 minutes. This activity is free with paid Zoo admission.

 

JUNE 6:  WORLD OCEANS DAY

Water–we all need it! Friday, June 6, is World Oceans Day at the Oklahoma City Zoo and, to celebrate, the Zoo is planning family-fun activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Noble Aquatic Center. Learn about the world’s oceans and aquatic inhabitants and how we are all connected by water. This activity is free with paid Zoo admission. In addition, guests will enjoy learning about water conservation during regularly scheduled sea lion presentations, Keeper Connections and Wild Tuesdays Story Time Safaris throughout June.

 

JUNE 15:  FATHER’S DAY

Take dad on a Zoo safari for Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15.  All dads get in free with any paid admission!

 

JUNE 20:  ZOOBILATION

The Oklahoma Zoological Society (OZS) and the Oklahoma City Zoo invite you to Zoobilation on Friday, June 20, from 7-11 p.m. Zoobilation is OZS’s annual no-tie gala and largest fundraising event for the Zoo. The Zoo’s Children’s Zoo provides a fun and whimsical setting for the evening’s festivities including gourmet bites from Oklahoma City’s favorite restaurants, adult beverages, a silent auction and live music provided by Avenue! All net proceeds of Zoobilation will benefit the Joan Kirkpatrick Animal Hospital. This 21-and-over event is limited to 700 guests. Individual tickets are $100. In preparation for Zoobilation, the Canopy Restaurant will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 19. On Friday, June 20, the Children’s Zoo will be closed all day and the Zoo will be closing at 2 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to visit early this day. Zoobilation will be held rain or shine. WEDNESDAYS IN JULY AND AUGUST:  WAY BACK WEDNESDAYS

The Zoo is rolling back its prices, way back! Every Wednesday in July and August guests of all ages will receive admission for $1 per person during Way Back Wednesdays. Children two and under are free. Extra “dollar deals” on these Wednesdays include a small popcorn, small drink, Safari Voyage boat ride, carousel ride and sea lion presentation admission; each for just a dollar. Sea lion show presentations on Wednesdays during July and August are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

 

JULY 1–AUGUST 24:  MORNING ZOO RISE

Starting July 1, the Zoo will open at 8 a.m. daily through August 24. Regular Zoo admission applies.

 

JULY 1–31:  2014 CAPTURE THE WILD PHOTO CONTEST

Enter your prized Zoo photos in the Oklahoma Zoological Society’s (OZS) "Capture the Wild Photo Contest" from July 1-31. Photos are categorized and judged in both youth and adult divisions. Entries accepted July 1-31.  Several of the photos, including the 2014 winners, will comprise the annual ZooFriends calendar. The full-color calendar is one of the benefits of ZooFriends membership. JULY 4:  INDEPENDENCE DAY

Celebrate the holiday weekend with a family outing to one of Oklahoma’s premiere destinations. The Zoo is open on Independence Day, Friday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

JULY 17:  SALES TAX APPRECIATION DAY

In recognition of Oklahoma City citizens passing a 1/8 of a cent dedicated sales tax to the Zoo in 1990, admission to the Zoo is free for all on Thursday, July 17. Thank you for being OKC Zoo proud!

 

JULY 19:  BOWLING FOR RHINOS

Bowling for Rhinos is Saturday, July 19–save the date to help save rhinos. The Oklahoma City Zoo’s Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) invites you to the 20th annual Bowling for Rhinos (BFR) on Saturday, July 19, at 7 p.m., at Heritage Lanes, 11917 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City.  BFR is a family friendly, annual fundraiser supporting rhino conservation. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit rhino conservation in Asia and Africa. Registration forms are available at www.okczoo.com. Registration is $25 per bowler, which includes shoe rental, three games of bowling, dinner, door prize opportunities and a t-shirt.

 

AUGUST 1–30:  ART GONE WILD: PAINTINGS BY OKC ZOO ANIMALS

Brushes, paint and canvases plus birds, elephants and snakes equals one wild art show! The Oklahoma City Zoo will be hosting its fifth annual Art Gone Wild art show at the a.k.a. gallery (3001 Paseo) in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District from August 1-30. The show features original pieces of art created by the Zoo’s own talented animal artists made especially for the show with some help from their care givers. Art styles vary by animals; some use a paint brush while others choose to paint with their trunk, paws, and even noses! Each work of art is for sale and all profits support the Zoo’s conservation projects.

 

AUGUST 2:  VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT

Turn a passion into a reality. Become an Oklahoma City Zoo volunteer. The Zoo is searching for passionate, dependable individuals 18 or older to apply to become animal area, horticulture and/or dive volunteers. If you are interested in one of these opportunities, attend our Volunteer Recruitment on Saturday, August 2 at 10 a.m. in the Zoo’s Rosser Conservation Education Center (located at the east end of the Zoo’s parking lot). Orientation and paperwork will begin at 10 a.m. with staff interviews immediately following. To learn more visit www.okczooed.com.

 

NOW–OCTOBER:  STINGRAY BAY

This summer find your way to Stingray Bay. The Oklahoma City Zoo’s Stingray Bay provides guests the opportunity to touch and view stingrays up close, and occasionally feed them (additional fee required.) See cownose stingrays, southern stingrays, bonnethead sharks and white-spotted bamboo sharks. This unique experience will leave you smiling for more. Admission to Stingray Bay is $3 per person. Children two and under are free. ZooFriends' memberships do not apply. Stingray Bay is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during regular hours, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on late Saturdays (through August 30, 2014).

 

NOW–OCTOBER: SUNDAY BEHIND THE SCENES EXPERIENCES

Behind the Scenes is your opportunity for an amazing and rare Zoo experience on Sundays through October. You’ll get to spend time with Zoo animal teams as they care for and enrich their animals. Tours for individuals or couples are from 9 a.m. – noon. Group tours are from 2:30-3:15 p.m. Participants must be 14 and older. Pre-registration is required. Gift certificates are available. The cost is $100/person for ZooFriends members and $120/person for nonmembers; $250 for groups up to eight participants. Purchase an experience today in the Zoo’s Safari Gift Shop.

 

NOW–OCTOBER 26: WEEKEND KEEPER CONNECTIONS

Connect with our keepers as you learn about the animals they care for at the Zoo. These incredible individuals are also conservation champions dedicated to helping protect our planet and its natural resources. Follow in their footsteps and learn how you can help, too. Keeper Connections are held at posted areas throughout Zoo grounds on Saturdays and Sundays only, and occur weather permitting.

A symphony of sights awaits you at the Oklahoma City Zoo. The Zoo is a proud member of Oklahoma City’s Adventure District located at the crossroads of I-44 and I-35. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Buildings close at 4:45 p.m. daily. The Zoo is open until 8 p.m. on Saturdays through August 30 with buildings closing at 7:45 p.m. Guests must exit grounds at closing time. Regular admission is $8 for adults, and $5 for children ages 3-11 and seniors ages 65 and over. Children two and under are admitted free.
