OKLAHOMA CITY ZOOLOGICAL TRUST APPOINTS INTERIM ZOO DIRECTOR

The Oklahoma City Zoological Trust appointed Alan Varsik as interim executive director of the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden on Wednesday, November 20. Varsik served as the Zoo’s deputy director since November 2010.

Upon the departure of Executive Director Dwight Scott, who recently left the Zoo to become the director of the San Diego Zoo, the Trust established a search committee to expedite the hiring and interviewing process for a new executive director. The committee is comprised of current and former Zoo trustees, ZooFriends’ board members and Zoo staff members.

Varsik has more than 28 years in the zoo profession, with tenure at the Brookfield and Lincoln Park zoos in Chicago, Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida and the Santa Barbara Zoo in California before coming to Oklahoma City. He has served in several official roles with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
