Length and cost of workshops vary. Certificates for staff development can be issued upon completion. Topics include: • Oklahoma Trails-For Educators (A): Saturday, August 18th, 9 AM- 4 PM Join us to learn how to use our newest exhibit, Oklahoma Trails, to enhance your classroom & curriculum. Teachers will get a detailed look at the design of the exhibit, gain ideas and receive take home curriculum. Box lunch included. Cost: $20/person – no discounted rates. • Hands-on Classroom Science • What the Zoo Can Do for You: The Zoo can be much more than another field trip! Learn how to use the Oklahoma City Zoo to meet PASS objectives and add excitement to your curriculum. • Project Wild, Project Learning Tree, Project HELP Science Curricula and more! • Animals in the Classroom • Overnight workshops: Available to groups of 15 or more • Interdisciplinary Workshop: Incorporating the zoo into every school discipline including art, music, history, science, foreign language, grammar, physical education, home economics, math, and special education. The Zoo offers nature classes, labs, tours and Zoomobiles for all ages. Programs for School Groups These programs use the zoo as our living classroom to teach science and thinking skills. Preschool Kindergarten - First Grade Second - Fourth Grade Fifth - Sixth Grade Seventh - Twelfth Grade Other Groups (Day Cares, YMCA, YWCA, Afterschool Groups) Other On-Grounds Programs Homeschool Safari Club September 2007 - March 2008 First Wednesday of each month 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Animal encounters, discovery, inquiry, guided activities on Zoo grounds, live animals and so much more! Safari Club 2007-2008 is designed specifically for homeschool children in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd-3rd, 4th-5th, 6-10th, and 11-12th grades. Pre-registration is required. Club fee for the entire year is $75. Registration begins April 2, 2007. To register, call (405) 425-0218. Cancellation and Refund Policy: 1. There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than 10 days prior to program start date. 2. Classes are transferable to children in the same age group; however a $10 service charge will apply for any changes in the original registration. 3. Zoo Grants Available for Schools and Organizations Oklahoma Zoological Society (OZS), the zoo’s nonprofit support group, wants to help ensure that every person, regardless of ability to pay, is given the opportunity to have an exciting and memorable educational experience at the Oklahoma City Zoo. Twice a year, OZS awards grants to schools and organizations to help defray the cost. Since the Zoo FUNd for Kids inception in 1997, OZS has awarded more than 1492 grants to 258 schools and 139 nonprofit organizations. The grants, totaling more than $695,633, benefited 184,942 students. Grant deadlines are October 1st (for Spring programs) and May 1st (for Summer and Fall programs).
