Thank you for choosing the Zoo as your field trip destination. We want your visit to be an enjoyable experience and to help accomplish this may we suggest a few tips. Before you get to the Zoo: Confirm your chaperones. Consider issuing nametags. Go over the Zoo's rules and behavior contracts. Discuss the itinerary for the day including arrival and departure times. Talk about what to do in the case of an emergency. Children are encouraged to ask for assistance at the Guest Relations Office or from anyone wearing a Zoo name badge or uniform. How and where do we check-in? Check-in at the Zoo's Main Entrance. If traveling by bus, please pull up in front of the main entrance. Pull up as far forward as you can. Keep everyone on the bus and wait for a Zoo greeter. The greeter will check your group in and begin to unload the bus. Time is limited so everyone should be ready to unload quickly. Your group will need to unload lunches. If traveling by van or car, park in the Zoo's main parking lot and check-in with the Zoo greeter or at a ticket booth. Where do we go if we paid in advance? A teacher or chaperone will need to go to the ticket booth to pick up your pre-paid pass. If you pre-paid for ride and/or show tickets you can pick these up at the ticket booth with your pre-paid pass. Paying on the day of your visit? You can pay by check, cash, credit card or purchase order. If you haven't pre-paid, the group leader should be ready to pay upon arrival. While the group leader is paying, a Zoo greeter will escort your group into the plaza area to wait for the group leader and tickets. What if we didn't make a reservation? It's okay if you didn't make a reservation! The group leader can handle everything that day. Be ready to give the ticket attendant your school's mailing address, tax ID number (if applicable) and the total number in your group. Only one group leader needs to go to the ticket window. As the group leader is paying, a Zoo greeter will escort your group into the plaza. What about lunch? Zoo visitors are welcome to bring their own lunches or enjoy eating in the Zoo at The Canopy Food Court or various concession stands. Coolers are allowed. However, the Zoo prohibits glass containers, straws and alcoholic beverages. Groups are responsible for their own lunches as well as unloading and loading off and on the buses. Coolers and lunches may be stored on the covered deck located behind the former main entrance (just west of the main plaza). Hand-carts are available on a first-come, first-served basis to help transport lunches. You can check one out from the Guest Relations office. Please have your driver's license available. Lockers may be rented for $1 (quarters only) during your visit. Feel free to utilize any of the Zoo's picnic facilities unless they are reserved for a company function. And, we ask that groups do not take their lunches into The Canopy Food Court. What about accompanying adults meeting us at the Zoo? When you check-in with the Zoo greeter you will be given a sign with your group's name on it. Please instruct any parents and/or accompanying adults to look for someone from your group holding this sign in the plaza. When everyone in the group has arrived please proceed through the turnstiles. Please turn in the sign at the turnstiles. What do we need to do when we're ready to leave? Make sure everyone knows your departure time. When everyone is ready, find a Zoo greeter or Security Officer, outside the main entrance and ask them radio for your bus. Buses can pull up to the front entrance for loading. Remember time is limited. There will be several buses trying to leave at once, so everyone needs to be ready to go.
